Happy St. Patrick's Day! It's your Lucky Day!
The nail polish and tools used for this design will be right next to the images as we go.
The skill level for this Lucky design is:
Beginners to Intermediate
This design has both simple a more difficult parts. The part that make this design a little bit harder are the parts you outline. The most simple part of this design is the glitter gradient on the pinky nail.
Let's help our little Minion find the pot of gold!
Base Coat - CND Stickey Base Coat
1. Start off with a base coat to protect your nails from staining and to help your design to last longer.
Polishes used- Zoya- Selene, KBShimmer- Peridot,
and Sally Hansen- Triple Shine- Lemon Shark.
and Sally Hansen- Triple Shine- Lemon Shark.
2. Once your base coat has dried paint your thumb, middle and pinky a shimmer green, your index a glitter light green, and your ring finger yellow for your Minion.
Color Club Blue Heaven, Cloud Nine, and Harp On.
3. First we will start off with the rainbow on the thumb nail, instead of rainbow colors we will use three polishes that have built in rainbows, holographic polish. First take your thin stripping brush with a silver holographic polish on it, and make a thin kind of curved line on the side of the thumb. Repeat this with a purple and blue holographic as well and silver one more time. I made four lines for the rainbow, you can make a few more if you would like.
White acrylic paint
4. This is an optional step that you can do or you can leave it as is (which is what I did on my right hand, which you can see at the end.) We will be making a small shamrock on the other side of the nail. First we will make the outline with white paint. Take your thin brush with white paint on it and make four heart shapes that form a shamrock. When this is dry we will be covering it with a glittery green polish.
Black and white acyclic paint, Kiss nail art stripper- Black, Sally Hansen-
Triple Shine- Dive In, and thin nail art brush.
5. Next we will be creating our cute Minion Leprechaun on the ring finger nail. Take a light green nail polish and with the brush just swipe it half way up the nail, this is for his green overalls. Then with a black stripper polish make a curve line for his smile. For his eye mix a black and white paint to make a grey, with your thin nail art brush dipped in the grey you made make a small circle above his smile.
6. Next we need to make the rest of this eye. Just take some white paint with that same clean brush and make a smaller circle in that grey one, then clean off your brush and make a smaller black circle in the white one.
7. After we finish the Minion's eye we will make the strap that is part of his goggles. With either black paint or your black stripping polish, make two square shapes on the sides of his eye.
8. Next we will add his pocket and some little hair. Take your dark green polish and swipe a small square on the larger square for his pocket. Then for some hair, take your black nail art stripping polish and make three lines near the cuticle.
9. On the index finger nail we will start to help our little Minion find the pot of gold. Take your thin nail art brush with black paint on it and make a half circle and then put a line at the top, it should kind of look like a small hat right now.
10. This nail I actually meant to paint this with the dark shimmer green that way the holographic rainbow would not blend in to the background to much, but adding white over top helped a little bit. On my right hand I actually did this the way I was going to, which you can see at the end.
Anyways for this you will need to first outline your rainbow with white paint to make it show up, just take your thin nail art brush with white paint on it and make four lines coming from your little pot. Then take your silver, purple, and blue holographic polish and go over that white.

Snowman rainbow glitter polish, silver and black nail art stripping polish.
11. On your pot of gold to change it up we will put rainbow glitter in our pot. Just take a rainbow glitter polish and with a toothpick scrap off a little bit of glitter and place it on your pot.
12. Next we will be free handing a chevron design on our middle finger nail. With your silver nail stripping polish make a dot on the center of the nail as a guide then make two lines coming from each side of the nail. Try to make the lines come to a point. I made four chevron lines, depending on how long your nail is you can make more or less. If you don't want to free hand this you can use tape or nail vinyls to help.
13. A step that is not show is the picky nail glitter gradient. This is a simple step, just take a small piece of makeup sponge and paint a little bit of the light green glitter polish on it, then dab the sponge on the nail, make sure their is more glitter on the tip of the nail and less going up the nail.
14. Lastly for some final touches to our design we need to outline our Minion's overalls. Take your black nail art stripping polish and carefully outline the large square, along with adding some straps for his overalls, then outline the small square for his pocket.
On the thumb nail you can also add some glitter a the bottom of the rainbow for the gold, and an optional touch is to outline the shamrock with black paint to make it stand out more.
Above is the design I did on my right hand that I meant to do on both, as you can tell that the pot of gold and the rainbow seem not to blend in to the background as much. Also on the thumb nail I just made the rainbow and no shamrock.
Final once your cute Minion St. Patrick's nail design has dried apply a top coat to protect your nail and seal in your nail design.
Hope all of you enjoyed this kind of different take on a St. Patty's day nail design. This nail design was inspired by a design that Nail Storming did, but as always I changed it up to try and make it my own.
See you next time for more nail fun!
