So Emotional- Emotions Design

Hello everyone! Life can be an emotional roller coaster with a lot of ups and down in our lives. I know personally in my life I have had plenty of ups and downs in my life. As of recently, I decided I was unhappy with how things where going in a certain part of my life, that was when I decided to go back to school (after thinking long and hard if I wanted to do that again) to be come a nail tech. Anyway I thought it would be cool to do a emotions nail design with all of you, yes this may remind you a little bit of the movie Inside Out, just a little bit simpler.

Emotions nail deisgn      Emotions nail design. Happy, Sad, Disgust, Fear, and Anger.

The nail polish and tools used for this design will be right next to the images as we go.

The skill level for this emotions design is:

Beginners

This design is great for beginners. It is very simple to create with a dotting tool and a thin nail art brush with simple lines to create the happy face designs.

Before we start I just wanted to let you know that the happy face was one of the very first designs that I use to do on my nails. I use to us a pencil that you are suppose to write on paper with, dip that in polish and draw a happy face on my nails. They really didn't turn out to well, plus I use to bite my nails really badly so they did not stay on my nails for very long.

Let's not be to emotional when creating this design!

  Base cost used- CND Sticky

1. Start off with a thin layer of base coat to protect your nails.

Polishes used- Sally Hansen- Triple Shine- Lemon Shark,
OPI- Hello Kitty- My Pal Joey, OPI Hawaii- My Gecko Does Tricks,
Julep- Hazel- Boho glam, and Finger paints- Cubism Crimson.

2. After your base coat has dried paint you thumb nail yellow, index finger nail blue, middle finger nail green, ring finger nail purple, and pinky finger nail red.

Sally Hansen- Hard as Nails- Black Heart and Large dotting tool.

3. Once your colorful base colors has dried, take your large dotting tool with black polish on it and dot two dots for the eyes on each nail.

Black acrylic paint and a thin nail art brush

4. Next we will start to make the faces for each emotion; happy, sad, disgust, fear, and anger. Refer to the photo above for the faces, the only thing with disgust is make the mouth more curved (I had to redo that part disgust looked a little to happy.)

Emotions nail deisgn   Final emotional nail design

5. For some final touches on the sad face add two tears, disgust a tongue and some slated eye brows, and the anger face some slanted eye brows as well.

Then once your emotional design has dried apply a top coat to protect your nails, because the last thing you want it to be mad or sad that your nails just chipped.

Just a side note as stated above life is a emotional roller coaster, and all of us want to be happy but sometime our other emotions like to get in the way. But all emotions are their to balance out everything (well that what they said in the movie Inside Out.)

That was kind of the reason why Happiness is on the thumb nail because being happy should be important part of life and the other emotions are their to balance everything. Also anger is on the smallest finger because no one likes to be anger and we want to make anger a smaller part of out lives.

Hope all of you enjoyed this emotional nail design!

Nail Tech Training

Hello everyone! I decided to do an extra post for all of you today. If you have been following the M.M.M blog then you know that I recently decided to go back to school to become a nail technician. The school I am going to has a 400hr program and and 600hr program, I am doing the 400hr program. Nail tech school or Cosmetology school is not like most colleges, it is not based on credits, it is based on hours, in school you do have class room time or theory (which also includes practice as well), then after a certain amount of hours you get to practice on real people or clients that come to the school.

As far as how school is going I am really enjoying it, I have a great teacher that really knows what she is doing and has been teaching us a lot.

So far I have learned how to do Manicures; basic, spa and stone manicures.
Pedicures; basic, spa and stone.

Blended tips or nail tip application, Fiber glass or nail wraps. If you don't know what blended tip is, that is when you put a fake nail or nail tip on the natural nail with nail glue and blended it in with a file, so the nail looks natural, this is also meant to create length. Also if you don't know what Fiberglass is it is a way to add strength onto your blended tip with a piece of silk like wrap that is glued onto the nail with nail resin, then buffed with a file to make the nail smooth. Also fiberglass is not used very often but we still learn it in school.

Next we have learned acrylics; overlay which is meant to add strength to the nails not length, pink and white which just look like a french manicure with white tips and the rest of the nail is pink. Then we learned sculpting that is when you take a nail form and sculpt the nail tip with acrylic, also to add length.

Here are some photos of the acrylic sculpting that we did in class today, this was my first time doing this so it not perfect.

Only two nail have acrylic on them the index and middle finger nail. Also we have a handequin or mannequin hand that we practice on along with classmates for now. The products we use is called Clarite (by OPI) it is an odorless product and dries slower, unlike traditional acrylics that have an odor and dry faster.

Some close ups of the acrylic sculpting, it okay for my first try still need a lot of practice. The other acrylic methods I have done I did not take photos of. I just thought I would share this with all of you.
I still have some other things to learn like gel polish, nail art, and I am not sure what else right now.

Hope all of you enjoyed this post and maybe even learned a little something!

See you next time for more nail fun!

Batman vs. Superman

Hello everyone! Today we will be creating a design to celebrate the highly anticipated movie that came out March 25, 2016 (sorry I am a little late) Batman vs. Superman. I am not really a superhero fan, but I thought this would be fun to create, and for all of you that are fans of nerdy nails this will be great for all of you as well.

Batman vs. Superman nail deisgn
Batman vs. Superman design

All the nail polish and tools used for this design will be right next to the images as we go.

The skill level for this Batman vs. Superman design is:

 Intermediate to advanced

This design has some parts to it that are hard to create, mainly the Batman/ Superman logo is the part that would make this design more advanced. The other parts like the cityscape and the strip design for Batman and Superman for the most part are simple to create.

Let's see who will win Batman or Superman, or let's just start this Batman vs. Superman design!

 Base coat used- CND Sticky

1. Start off with a thin layer of base coat to protect your nails from the dark justice or just dark polish.

Polishes used- Sally Hansen- Triple Shine- Bait Me and Lemon Shark,
and Sinful Color- Midnight blue.

2. Then once your base coat has dried paint your thumb a light grey, your ring finger nail yellow, and your pinky nail a dark blue, and your index and middle finger nail leave those with just your base coat on for now.

Small piece of makeup sponge and Revlon- Rebel graffiti for the pinky nail.

3. Next we will be creating a cityscape on our ring finger nail. For this we will need a small piece of makeup sponge to make a gradient for the sky (well kind of gradient). Once you have cut a small piece of sponge, paint some of the blue polish that you used for the pinky nail on the sponge, then pat some of the polish near the cuticle going half way down the nail.

4. For the ring finger you can just used a black and white glitter polish over the blue.

Black acrylic paint and a small flat brush

5. After we have finished the color for the sky we need to add some buildings. Take a small flat brush with black paint on it and swipe two tall lines on the side, and a shorter one in the middle for the buildings.

yellow acrylic paint and a small detail brush

6. Once we have the shape of the buildings we need to add some small windows. Take your small thin detail brush with yellow paint on it, and just dab small dots along the buildings for the windows.

 white acrylic paint

7. After that we will create a small moon in the corner of our nail. First we will take our small detail brush with white paint on it and make a small circle in the corner of our nail for the moon. Once the white has dried paint over the moon with yellow paint.

Polish used- Sinful Color-Let's Meet

8. Next we will be making a simple strip design using Batman and Superman's color schemes on the index and middle finger nail. For both nail we will take a yellow polish (I used a different yellow for this because the brush was to wide on the other yellow polish I used for the other nail.)Swipe the brush at an angle to make a strip.

  Polishes used-
Sinful Color- Midnight blue and Let's Meet, Finger paints- Cubism Crimson, China glaze- white on white, Sally Hansen- Hard as Nails- Black Heart, and Kiss nail art stripper- Black (for later)

9. Once that yellow had dried we will add the other colors. On the index nail we will be doing Superman's colors, on the middle finger nail we be doing Batman's colors. With the brushes that is in the bottle just swipe the colors for each hero on the nails. You can refer to the photo above to see which colors go where.

Red acrylic paint and a small thin detail brush

10. Lastly we will be doing the more tricky part the Batman vs. Superman logo on the thumb nail. For the logo I did have a photo of it to look at as a reference. First we will start off with Superman's part, take your thin detail brush with red paint on it and make a diamond shape, then a S in the middle, you can go over the parts that need to be thicker a few time if needed.

11. After we have finished Superman's logo, we will be adding Batman's to the logo design. Once again take your clean detail brush with black paint, on it and start off with the bat ears at the top and go ahead and fill them in.

 Black acrylic paint

12. Then after you have the ears, make the outline of the two wings on the sides with that same brush. After that you can fill in the wings with black paint, if your wings do not match up you can always make them thicker to match. Also don't forget to fill in the Superman logo with some black as well.

Batman vs. Superman nail deisgn
 Batman vs. Superman final design

For a final touch on your index and middle finger nail, you can take a black stripping polish and add an outline on the yellow strip.

As always when your nail design has dried apply a top coat to seal in your design and protect it from the evil guys or just chipping. I used Revlon Extra Life No Chip top coat.

Hope all of you enjoyed this Batman vs. Superman nail design!

See you next time for more nail fun!
