Are those your real/ natural nails?
Yes my nails are real. I used to bite my nails really badly in middle school, then when I entered to high school, I stopped biting them and just let them grow. I went from one extreme to the other.
Do you do, or use anything special to make your nails grow long?
What I Use-
I do use a topcoat Revlon Extra Life No Chip Top Coat (my favorite topcoat right now). This topcoat says that it has patented plasticizers and an acrylic polymer that helps to make nails stronger. When I first started to grow my nails out I used Sally Hansen No Chip Acrylic Top Coat, then after years of using that top coat it didn't seem to work as well (not sure if they just changed what was in the top coat or what happened.)
What I Do-
As for doing anything special other then just being careful. When it comes to getting your hands very wet for long periods of time I try to avoid. Like when you do the dishes it is best to wear gloves because if you get your hands wet for a long period of time this can make your nails soft and more prone to breakage. But yes do still wash your hands regularly!
What base and top coat do you use?
I have been using Nicole OPI- 3in1- base, top, & strengthener as just a base coat. I have tried a few and I think I found one that works. As for the top coat I use Revlon Extra Life No Chip Top Coat, I found that this top coat works for me.
Do you just use regular nail polish, gel, or shellac?
I just use regular nail polish. I have heard that gel polish is pretty good and that it lasts a long time, but I have yet to try it.
How long do you wear your nail designs/ how long does your nail polish last?
I like to wear my nail designs or just a basic manicure for about a week. Their are some girls that do video's and blogs that right away will just take their polish off. I don't want to do that, it does take me a while to do my post because every time I paint a new part I stop and take a photo of it, and I would hate to just remove all my hard work.
As for how long my nail polish usually last it usually last about a week with touch ups. Do to where I work I get a lot of tip wear, I usually touch up my nails every other day to every day at lest with topcoat or polish (depending on the wear) on the tips of my nails.
Where do you buy your nail polish and what are your favorite brands?
I mainly buy drug store brand nail polishes at stores like Target (my favorite store), Meijer, CVS pharmacy, Rite Aid, etc. I just don't like to spend a lot of money on a nail polish that I can find cheaper. Like most of the expensive brands I have found that you can find that same color in a cheaper brand that is just as good. I will only buy a more expensive brand if I feel that I can't find that color for cheaper, or that it is a unique color.
Do you just do free-hand nail designs, or do you use stencils or stamping?
I really only do free hand nail design I find that it gives me more of a challenge which can make it more fun and difficult at the same time. I do have stencils and stamps, but I have not used them yet.
Are you left or right handed or ambidextrous?
I am right handed. But with practice I can switch to using my left hand, all though I would say that sometimes my right hand does look messier. For my non dominate hand (the left hand) I do have to go slower and just try to make sure I have a steady hand in order for my right hand nails to look okay. Practice makes perfect!
Other: What Camera do you use along with photo editing software?
Camera I use:
As for the camera I use I do use an SLR the Cannon EOS Rebel T3. I shoot the step by step tutorials in my poorly lit kitchen (I just have to adjust the setting in my camera to get the photos to look okay.) The final look I shoot outside to try and get the best lighting. That's why some of my photos at the end look brighter.
Update: For my final photos I now take them inside next to a window. My final photos just seem to bright outside, so I thought I would try taking them inside next to a window.
Software I use:
I use Adobe Photoshop to do some simple edits on the photos I take. Adobe Illustrator to create my nail polish bottle logo, and the text for the name (text looks clearer in Illustrator.)
Here's a photo of my just cut and filed nails. With no nail polish, or clear coat. Just my naked nails.
